The ID verification regime for Companies House in respect of Company Directors, LLP Partners and Persons with Significant Control (PSCs) starts from 18th November 2025.

See our guidance on this – Companies House Identity Verification

Directors, Partners and PSCs are able to verify their ID now and get a “Companies House Personal Code”.  This is a one off process.

This code then applies to all Companies or LLPs the individual is involved with.

Separately, the code then needs to be entered against the record for each Company or LLP is involved with.  This step has caused some confusion.  Here is what you need to know:

  1. The process does not open until 18th November.  You can verify your ID now and get your code, but the code cannot be entered against your company(s) or LLP(s) yet.
  2. If you are a Director or LLP Partner the code is entered into the Director / Partner record via the annual Confirmation Statement.
  3. If you are a PSC and also a Director or Partner in the company / LLP then you enter the code again within 14 days of the Confirmation Statement (hopefully at the same time, but we’ll have to see when the system goes live) against the PSC record.
  4. If you are a PSC and not a Director / Partner of the company / LLP then the code needs to be entered against the PSC record within 14 days of your birth month, eg if you were born in December then by 14th December.   Presumably this is done by whoever accesses the Companies House record for the company, not the PSC themselves. but we wait to see.

A couple of points to note:

  • For 2 and 3, the timescale is the Confirmation Statement so maybe up to 12 months away – and yes the code needs to be entered twice for each person, once as Director / Partner and once as PSC (very few directors / partners will not be PSCs)
  • For 4 the timescale is birth dependant, and could be as early as 14th December 2025.

Takeaways:

  • ID process is open now
  • For Directors and Partners the ID will be needed next Confirmation Statement
  • For PSCs who are not Directors or Partners, the ID will be needed in the month of your birth

Please be aware these responsibilities sit with the Directors / Partners / PScs, not with us as your accountant.  If you need help we will try and assist, but we cannot short cut the external requirements of Companies House, and Companies House must be your first stop for queries or concerns.
