If its sounds wrong, or too good to be true, it probably is.

This email was received earlier this afternoon, telling me the Insolvency Service was investigating my company for “abuse”.

However although it looks plausible, there are a couple of giveaways:

First the language and nature of the approach is wrong – as a professional in the accounting and tax field I can recognise that, many others won’t

Secondly, it was sent to my yoga email address which is a sole trader and therefore not a company, not regulated by company law, or having directors

Thirdly, and finally, the URL behind “extra info” is clearly bogus if you view it before clicking.

So a reminder, pishing and trojan emails may look very genuine, and this is the first I’ve seen like this, but be on your guard.  Anything offical is fair game for a scam these days, including tax rebates, business name registration and, so it seems, insolvency.
