We are a full service firm of accountants, and can happily assist with a wide range of accounting, tax planning and business advisory issues, for businesses in all sectors and off all sizes. The Fees above are typical of straight forward cases, but we can provide bespoke pricing for other work.
Some of the things we can help with:
- Business structure
- Succession planning
- Business plans and cash flow forecasting
- Capital Taxes such as IHT and CGT
- Buying and selling businesses, mergers and other transactions
- Regular payroll, bookkeeping and vat accounting
We can provide fixed price quotes for this work.
Our hourly rates (all exclusive of vat) for non routine work are currently:
- £250 Principal/Director
- £125 Manager grade staff
- £50 Senior Technician grade staff
Generally all work is however quoted on a fixed price, and most of our clients simply pay one annual fee in line with the tariffs above.
We cover most accountancy and tax matters, however we generally do not accept engagements involving:
- Statutory audit under Companies or Charities legislation
- Accounting for groups of companies
- Tax advisory around trusts and complex estate planning
- Stamp Duty and related issues including ATED
- Share Incentive schemes and similar, eg EIS, SEIS, Employee Share Schemes
Our fixed fee packages are priced to cover the typical service level a client needs. In any given year some clients will need more support or service, others less, and our fees balance this.
However occasionally a clients service needs, or the complexity of their requirements, will go beyond that anticipated. Rather than have a long list of exceptions or small print, we operate on a fair use basis. Where services cannot be accommodated in the fixed fee:
- We will endeavour to let clients know at the start of the engagement, or if not as early as possible.
- We will avoid unreasonable suspension or withdraw of services at short notice
- We will avoid incurring any material additional charges for clients without authorisation
- We will work collaboratively with clients to resolve the issue
Under our Terms of Business, either party can cancel the contract between us with no notice.
Making Tax Digital for Income Tax
Making Tax Digital (“MTD”) already applies to VAT, and from 2026 will apply to Income Tax for Sole Traders and will require many small businesses to keep digital records and submit quarterly returns. Inevitably this will impact the services we provide our clients and their cost.
This is a major change to the accounting and taxation landscape, and details are still evolving.
Read more about Making Tax Digital for Income Tax
The staging is:
- From April 2026 sole traders and landlords with turnover or rents of £50,000 or more
- From April 2027 sole traders and landlords with turnover or rents of £30,000 or more
- From April 2028 sole traders and landlords with turnover or rents of £20,000 or more
In summary, impacted businesses will need to:
- Keep their records digitally.
- Submit quarterly updates to HMRC.
- Submit their End of Period Update (which is Self Assessment under another name) via MTD compliant software – paper and web based returns are not allowed.
As outlined above, we provide both Year End style accounting and tax services, along with upgrades for monthly or quarterly support.
If we are providing you with a Year End service, then you would need to deal with digital record keeping and quarterly submissions, and we will deal with the end of year including the End of Period Update (which mirrors the traditional Self Assessment for all practical purposes).
Many people will want more support than this, and we try and accommodate this on an individual basis with a service that matches your requirements. A suitable solution for many people will be:
- Use a cloud accounting system like FreeAgent.
- You are responsible for the day to day data entry and recording.
- We provide a periodic check and review and submission of your MTD return each quarter.
- As an add on this will, all other things being equal, be £50 + vat / quarter, so £200+vat on to annual fees.
- You need to budget for the cost of software on top of the above.
Although we recommend FreeAgent we are “open platform” and will work with your choice of software and apps where possible.
